Bari Weiss Meets David Baddiel – Jews Don’t Count

Bari Weiss in Conversation with David Baddiel

Has identity politics failed one particular identity? It is David Baddiel’s contention that one type of prejudice has been left out of the fight against homophobia, disablism, transphobia, and racism.

In this livestream event, he will follow the anti-Semitism he finds in his Twitter feed to the stage, through the media and into politics as he argues that those who think of themselves as on the right side of history have often ignored the history of anti-Semitism.

In conversation with Bari Weiss, the award-winning former New York Times journalist whose book How To Fight Anti-Semitism was acclaimed as an urgent wake-up call to expose and defeat this ancient hatred, David will outline why and how, in a time of intensely heightened awareness of minorities and the discriminations they face, Jews don’t count as a real minority. And, most important of all, he and Bari will explore what we can all do to fight back against the rising tide of hate and affirm liberal values in this uncertain moment.

This livestream is held in partnership with 5×15:

Praise for David Baddiel and Bari Weiss:

‘This is a bare-knuckle fist-fight of a book – snarly, sweary, unrestrained, unsparing. Baddiel’s great advantage as a polemicist is that he’s familiar with the worlds where anti-Semites flourish – the football terraces, comedy, journalism, the stage, Twitter, even the Labour Party – and is well apprised of their tactics. It isn’t that he punches low; it’s that he knows how to defend himself when they do. A win by knockout – early in the third.’ – Howard Jacobson

“Few people in public life have David Baddiel’s intellectual or cultural range, and in this new book he applies this wide learning to demonstrate, brilliantly and eloquently, how antisemitism is propounded in our national life in thousands of unthinking ways. Anyone with any history will know that Antisemitism was the original racism, and this short and powerful book shows, with remarkable humanity and humour, that no contemporary conversation about racism is complete without confronting antisemitism. An essential read – and a compulsory one too, if I had my way.” – Sathnam Sanghera

“Bari Weiss is heroic, fearless, brilliant and big-hearted. Most importantly, she is right.” – Lisa Taddeo, author of Three Women

“This is the most important book you will read this year. Concise, morally certain, it’s a bullet train from the first sentence to the last. There needs to be a copy in every classroom in the country. If you think something dark is rising, you’re right. What can you do? This is what you do.”—Caitlin Flanagan, author of To Hell With All That
