In this free online livestream, the multi-platinum singer-songwriter and bestselling author will reflect on the experiences that made her the artist and activist she is today.

Since the release of her first, career-defining solo album Little Earthquakes, Tori Amos has been one of the music industry’s most enduring and ingenious artists. From her unnerving depiction of sexual assault in Me and a Gun to her post-9/11 album Scarlet’s Walk to her latest album Native Invader, her work has never shied away from intermingling the personal with the political.

Now, fifteen years since the release of her bestselling memoir, Tori Amos revisits 18 of her most enduring songs, including ‘Cornflake Girl’, ‘Jackie’s Strength’, ‘Silent All These Years’ and ‘Taxi Ride’. In this conversation with journalist Erica Wagner, based on her new book Resistance, she will examine what was happening in her life when she wrote the lyrics that connected with millions of fans, and looks at them through the lens of the political and social landscape of 2020; how they stand as words of activism, words of resistance.

This conversation will teach us all how to engage with intention in this tumultuous global climate and will speak directly to supporters of #MeToo and #TimesUp, as well as young people fighting for their rights and visibility in the world. Erica Wagner

Former literary editor of The Times, author and writer for the New Statesman.

Erica Wagner’s latest book is Mary and Mr Eliot: A Sort-of Love Story. She was the literary editor of the London Times for seventeen years and is a contributing writer for the New Statesman and consulting literary editor for Harper’s Bazaar; she is Lead Editorial Innovator for Creatd, Inc.
