The hugely acclaimed author of Any Human Heart and Restless joins us to reveal a new tale of war and peace, love and loss – and above all things, the romance of life itself.

‘There are few reading pleasures as great as giving in to a William Boyd novel’- Sunday Times

The author of sixteen novels, as well as a screenwriter, playwright – and, on one unforgettable occasion, the mastermind of a spectacular art world hoax – William Boyd is ‘simply the best realistic storyteller of his generation’ (Sebastian Faulks).

Born in Ghana and raised in Nigeria, his stories are panoramic in scope, breathtaking in their ambition, and rich with insight into the human condition: in other words, irresistible to lovers of great literature.

He joins us to reveal The Romantic, a new novel transporting us from County Cork to London, Waterloo to Zanzibar, in the company of Cashel Greville Ross: soldier, farmer, felon, writer, father and lover. He faces a terrible moral choice in a village in Sri Lanka as part of the East Indian Army. He enters the world of the Romantic Poets in Pisa. In Ravenna he meets a woman who will live in his heart for the rest of his days. He experiences all the vicissitudes of life and, through the accelerating turbulence of the nineteenth century, he discovers who he truly is.

Praise for the novels of William Boyd:

‘Boyd seems singularly blessed with both an innate love of storytelling and the talent to render those stories in swift, confident prose.’ – New York Times

‘One of our best contemporary storytellers’ – Spectator
