Viv Groskop – One Ukrainian Summer

Go back in time with the bestselling author of The Anna Karenina Fix Viv Groskop for the comical and poignant story of her coming of age in Ukraine after the fall of the Soviet Union.

Today Viv Groskop is renowned as a comedian, podcaster, and bestselling author of books on self-confidence, French literature, and much more. But in the Autumn of 1993 she was a 20-year old on a study year supposedly immersed in the language, history and politics of a world that has just ceased to exist: the Soviet Union.

Instead, she found herself immersed in Bogdan Bogdanovich – the lead guitarist of a Ukrainian punk rock band. As the temperature dropped, he promised that if she could get through the freezing Russian winter, he will give her “one Ukrainian summer.” But is he serious about her? Or is she just another groupie?

Joining us live on stage in London, she will share a comic coming-of-age, celebrate Ukrainian culture, and bring us up to date with her insights into the unfolding tragedy of the present.

All proceeds from Viv’s book One Ukrainian Summer, which inspired and will be on sale at this event, will be donated to PEN INTERNATIONAL to support writers at risk.
